Toyota has started production of the all-new Toyota Aygo X Hybrid at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Czech Republic (TMMCZ) plant. The Aygo X Hybrid, Toyota’s most affordable model in Europe, debuts as the first fully hybrid vehicle in the A-segment and offers the lowest CO₂ emissions of any non-plug-in car on the market—making hybrid technology more accessible than ever. With this launch, Toyota now offers electrified options across all major passenger car segments in Europe.
Production of the Aygo model began more than 20 years ago, in February 2005. The third generation, Aygo X, introduced in 2021, marked a shift to a crossover-inspired design, with over 365,000 units produced since 2022.
The new Aygo X Hybrid is manufactured at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Czech (TMMCZ) plant in Kolín, where new materials, optimized processes, and logistics further reduce the plant’s environmental impact. TMMCZ, with approximately 3,200 employees and 65% of parts sourced locally, has produced more than 4.5 million vehicles since its founding in 2005—including Aygo, Aygo X, and Yaris models. The plant is also preparing for future production of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), strengthening Toyota’s strategy to achieve carbon neutrality.
“We are excited to launch production of the Aygo X Hybrid while also preparing for future battery electric vehicle manufacturing. This milestone marks another step forward on our journey toward carbon neutrality. The introduction of the GR SPORT version also adds a unique chapter to the Aygo story,” said Robert Kiml, President of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Czech.
“Aygo X, the first vehicle designed, developed, and manufactured in Europe, now brings our hybrid technology to the entire passenger car portfolio. Our multi-path strategy in powertrains helps customers across Europe reduce their carbon footprint as much and as quickly as possible, leaving no one behind,” said Peter Rade, Vice President for Quality, Toyota Motor Europe.
“Aygo X Hybrid is a great entry point into the world of electrified mobility for Czech customers—it offers affordable hybrid drive, low emissions and operating costs, and practical dimensions ideal for city driving. We are also proud that this car for European markets is produced right here in Kolín, further strengthening the Czech Republic’s position on the automotive industry map,” added Martin Peleška, Director of Toyota Czech Republic.
“On our key export markets across Europe, we are seeing sustained growth in demand for hybrid vehicles—currently, they account for more than a third of all new registrations. It is clear that customers have embraced this technology as an attractive and practical solution. From the perspective of competitiveness and the success of vehicles produced in the Czech Republic, the production of the new Aygo X Hybrid in Kolín is undoubtedly great news,” said Zdeněk Petzl, Executive Director of the Automotive Industry Association.
Toyota is committed to achieving full carbon neutrality in Europe by 2040 and in all European manufacturing plants by 2030. TMMCZ continues to pursue this goal by increasing energy efficiency, using renewable energy sources, and innovating manufacturing processes.
